Upstate Attractions - Safe Haven
Fort Ontario in Oswego, N.Y. has a storied history, playing a role in the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. But most notably, it was the only shelter in the United States for Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust. Together, the Education Center and the physical Fort provide an experiential learning opportunity for visitors as they follow the story of 982 mainly Jewish refugees who fled Europe, arriving in Oswego through the US Government Safe Haven program. In this episode, tour the exhibits and artifacts of the Safe Haven Museum and Education center.
