Episode Information

N'gen - Dairy

We visit a dairy to learn how farmers get milk from cow to cup and onto our tables. We all know cows eat grass, but how do they turn that green stuff into milk? We look at how the four compartments in a cow's stomach process the grass in different ways. Once the cows are milked, farmers must preserve the milk and keep it fresh. The wrong kind of bacteria can cause milk to spoil, so farmers remove them by heating the milk to just the right temperature. On the other hand, farmers need another kind of bacteria to make yogurt and cheese from milk. Jiji and a belching cow named Moodonna present this "amoozing" scientific adventure to a dairy farm!
