This Moment In America: Artists in the Heartland -

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, this half-hour documentary offers an honest and compelling look at the American experience through the eyes of three dynamic artists living and working in Southwest Ohio. Meet James Pate, one of Dayton's most acclaimed artists, who uses his self-termed "Techno-Cubism" in large-scale charcoal drawings to confront societal issues like racism and prejudice. The harmony-driven folk duo based in Cincinnati, better known as The Montvales, composed of Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson, shares storytelling-rich, banjo and guitar-led songs that explore themes from personal growth to social change. Finally, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Bognar, also from Dayton, explores labor, justice and his family's roots through his influential documentary films. THIS MOMENT IN AMERICA: ARTISTS IN THE HEARTLAND offers viewers an intimate, interwoven narrative that provides an absorbent, behind-the-scenes look at their creative process. Through their work, the film examines what it means to be an American today while contemplating where we go from here.
